Tonight's hard rule: one phone captures, different phones listen.

Do not trust the same phone to capture room audio and also feed a listener on earbuds or Bluetooth. Keep Device A near the front on its built-in mic only. Put viewers on Device B and attendee phones.

This is the safest service-night flow for a single live event.

Use this, not improvisation
  1. Put Device A near the platform.
    Use the phone's built-in mic only. Keep it off earbuds, AirPods, Bluetooth speakers, and car audio.
  2. Open viewer links on other devices.
    Device B and attendee phones should open the viewer route directly in the needed language.
  3. Do a 10-second sermon-volume check.
    Have someone speak from the pulpit. If captions look weak, move Device A closer before the event starts.
  4. Keep English as the anchor feed.
    If translations drift, keep source captions live and treat translated text as best effort tonight.

Capture phone checklist

Volunteer-facing wording for the phone that hears the room.

  • Mic route
    Built-in phone mic only. If Bluetooth is connected, disconnect it before the event.
  • Speaker route
    Do not monitor translated audio from the same phone. That creates the exact route conflict we are avoiding.
  • Room placement
    Aim for clear sermon pickup, not hidden seating. Front-center beats convenient pocket placement.

  • No earbuds or Bluetooth on Device A
    Wireless routes can steal the mic path or create echo and monitoring confusion. Keep capture on the phone speaker plus built-in mic only.
  • Never let one phone do both jobs
    If a listener needs earbuds, that listener must use a different phone than the capture device.
  • Translation is allowed to lag
    Source captions are the reliability anchor. English should always be the fallback feed.
  • Share direct viewer links
    Send English first, then any translated text links your listeners actually need.
